- Caregivers can come to Canada under two new pilot programs —Home Child Care Provider (NOC:4411) and Home Support Worker (NOC: 4412)
- Canada’s caregiver program is believed to be the only one in the world that provides access to permanent status for foreign workers after two years of full-time employment as a caregiver
- The pilots under caregiver category are occupation-specific work, rather than employer-specific,means if they want they can change employers.
- Spouse will get open work permit and children will get study permits
- Caregivers must still have an official job offer in Canada from Canadian employer and meet the standard criteria for economic immigration programs such as English proficiency(CLB 5), should have atleast 1 year post secondary education, background, health and criminal checks would be done.
- No need of LMIA, but the employer offering job should be financially sound to meet the expense of hiring a Caregiver.
- Caregivers’ work permits are expected to be processed within 12 months under new program.
- A total of 5,500 applications would be processed in a year, plus their immediate family.
